We are living in unprecedented times. Who’d have believed, even a week ago that one-third of the global population would be confined to their homes – and actually cooperating with that (for the most part!)? Don’t be scared though, get busy!
It’s Scary!
We’re coaches, we know that when things are uncertain – and boy are they uncertain at the moment! – it induces anxiety. Anxiety makes us feel frightened and feeling frightened makes us freeze.
Whether we’re talking a literal fight or flight freeze, or a psychological ‘I don’t know what to do so I’m going to do nothing at all’ freeze – freezing is our response to fear.
May I suggest that freezing isn’t the best answer in this particular situation?
This Will End
One thing we know is that the world has had pandemics before. Although they are not nice to live through, they do end. What’s more, they end and humanity survives.
We can all rest assured that however long this takes, and however inconvenient it is, this will end.
So the way I see it you have two choices.
- Bunker down, stockpile loo roll and panic.
- Take a deep breath and do something wonderful!
What To Do
If the bunkering down option isn’t you (or if it is you right now, but you know you’re going to get bored of being scared) then I have some ideas.
If you’ve already got a coaching business, then you need to stop and think about the clients you work with.
Specifically:
- What’s changed for them?
- What’s keeping them awake now?
- Is it different from what was keeping them awake before?
- How has what they want changed? (Remember; people buy what they want, not what they need!)
If you don’t yet have a coaching business, you do have a coaching qualification and you’re still employed, may I suggest that there has never been a better time to get your coaching business started!
You have weeks of enforced spare time – no commute, no going out – you could be devoting to creating a coaching business that starts as a side hustle and becomes your sole source of income.
Learning business development is a process that takes time; time to learn, time to implement. You have time. Use it wisely.
Should we talk? This is my diary.
