Core Competencies For Marketing

marketing diploma

Our mentoring programme is ICF accredited. To be specific, taking it can lead to a Diploma in Marketing For Coaches. You can find details of our accreditation here.

Why This Matters

We operate in a shark-infested industry. There are so very many who work in this space who prey on vulnerable coaches.

They are vulnerable because these coaches have reached the point at which they are feeling like they are stupid, that lots of other coaches seem to be doing ok client acquisition-wise, so what are they doing wrong? Is it their coaching? They begin to lose confidence in themselves as a coach at that point, they are vulnerable to vultures.

The Various Guises Of Vultures

Some vultures sell coaching materials and a ‘turnkey’ marketing presentation. I have yet to see anyone who didn’t already own a little black book have any success with this kind of company. Worse yet, when coaches go back to the leadership of this kind of company to say ‘this isn’t working for me’, the leadership offer something else to buy. I’ve known coaches spend in excess of £15k on coaching materials with this kind of organisation and never manage to find actual paying clients.

Other vultures promise that if you empty your wallet into their bank account that they’ll tell you the secret to having a 6-figure coaching business whilst working for 20 minutes a day from a beach in Bali….. well, not quite, but you will have seen the kind of people I’m talking about, right.

The Coaching Revolution is different.

Not only is our mentoring programme ICF accredited, we also offer 10-part payment plans on our programmes. We have tried to make it as easy as possible to become a Coaching Revolution mentee and – finally – start your coaching business. To actually create a business that is emotionally and financially rewarding!

Core Competencies of Marketing For Coaches

We have 9 core competencies. We use these to show what coaches will learn, to give them something to reflect on progress and where they may need to focus, and a way to assess the success of our mentoring programme.

They are as follows:

Resilience

Marketing any business is about being consistent with effort. Resilience comes in when it feels like those efforts aren’t working! There is a period of time in which a coach puts down roots before any green shoots (ie enquiries from potential clients) become visible.

Creativity and Innovation

Marketing is a creative endeavour. It incorporates the ability to use imagination and new ideas to produce marketing content, especially for a chosen audience.

Tech Savvy

You don’t need to bring technical skills to the table, but you must be willing to learn.

Coaching Skills

Sales conversations are structured coaching conversations. We expect our coaches to hold a professional coaching qualification (or equivalent) or be taking one.

Analytical skills

Not everything one tries marketing-wise is successful. Analytical skills. are necessary to measure what is/isn’t working and adjust accordingly.

Entrepreneurial skills

The ability to think ahead to either spot or create opportunities. The understanding that a coaching business isn’t a job and that therefore being busy or productive isn’t the same as being effective.

Responsibility

The ability to work in a way that considers the impact on yourself and other people, organisations and the wider environment.

Strategic thinking

Using newly learned skills to became strategic in where best to place time, effort and money in order to gain maximum impact.

Emotional Intelligence

The ability to understand what’s happening in your clients’ world and adapt your marketing accordingly.
